Global Conference on Innovative Malaria Vector Control Technologies & International Public Market Was Successfully Held

On March 26-28, the 2024 Global Conference on Innovative Malaria Vector Control Technologies & International Public Market was grandly held in Sun Yat-sen University. This conference was funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, sponsored by Zhongshan School of Medicine of Sun Yat-sen University, and co-organized by Vanke School of Public Health at Tsinghua University and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). As a premier international event in global mosquito vector control, the conference centered on the theme “Innovation-Driven, Technology-Empowered, Global Collaboration”, showcasing cutting-edge advancements and market applications in mosquito control technologies.

This forum gathered over 200 distinguished participants, including senior officials, renowned experts, and corporate representatives from 80 international organizations, colleges and universities, research institutions, and enterprises, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). The conference focused on the latest research advances, technological achievements, and international market promotion in the field of global malaria vector control, aiming to facilitate the application of Chinese innovative technologies and products in malaria-endemic regions such as Africa and Southeast Asia. 

It also highlighted the intelligent and green development in the field of mosquito vector control, featuring a dedicated “Innovative Technology Showcase and Case Sharing” section. This segment highlighted cutting-edge achievements such as high-efficiency eradication technologies, eco-friendly mosquito control agents, and long-lasting slow-release techniques.  Experts from the WHO and leading scholars at home and abroad attended the event, offering high praise for the application of these technologies. Companies specializing in pest control, such as Shandong Feiyamei Import and Export Co., Ltd., actively participated in the event, engaging in the in-depth discussions with global partners on technology implementation and international market expansion.

At the exhibition, Mr. Hao, Lushu, General Manager of Shandong Feiyamei Import and Export Co., Ltd., provided a detailed introduction to attendees on the company's self-developed “Mosquito Repellent Liquid Microcapsule Slow-Release System”, and conducted live demonstrations showcasing the long-lasting efficacy of the mosquito control formulation.  The system leverages an innovative dynamic release algorithm and microencapsulation technology to intelligently regulate the release rate of IR3535 active ingredients, achieving precise slow-release management. This extends effective protection time to 8-12 hours (while the traditional methods typically last only 4-6 hours). Currently, this technology has been successfully implemented by global industry leaders such as Syngenta Group. The industrialized products have been registered under trademarks including “Aifa” and “FATALA”, covering critical markets across Africa, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone. This contributes significantly to global malaria prevention and control efforts.

The successful hosting of this conference has not only facilitated international exchanges in mosquito vector control technologies, but also deepened the integration of China's innovative solutions with global markets. In the future, the conference outcomes will accelerate the transfer of China's mosquito vector control technologies to “Belt and Road” Initiative partner countries, help establish a new paradigm for international public health cooperation centered on technological innovation, and contribute China's wisdom in the elimination of global malaria.
