The 8th International Forum for Surveillance and Control of Mosquitoes and Vector-borne Diseases Was Successfully Held in Beijing

From October 23 to 27, 2023, the 8th International Forum for Surveillance and Control of Mosquitoes and Vector-borne Diseases in conjunction with the 14th Conference of Medical Entomology of The Entomological Society of China was held in Beijing, which was co-sponsored by The Entomological Society of China and the State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, and undertaken by the Professional Committee of Medical Entomology of The Entomological Society of China. Focusing on the latest research progress in the surveillance and control of mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases, the Conference brought together nearly 200 experts and scholars from China, the United States, India, Thailand, Malaysia and other countries, making it a high-level international academic event in the field of medical entomology.

The Conference set up 5 themes, covering Mosquito & mosquito-borne disease, Mosquito Behavior & Ecology, Insecticides, Resistance & Repellent, Mosquito Surveillance & Control and Other Medical Insects. Scholars from abroad, such as Auburn University in the United States, Lee County Mosquito Control District in Florida, USA, Panama City Mosquito Control District, Ross River Mosquito Control District, Kasetsart University in Thailand, and Universiti Sains Malaysia, as well as domestic scholars from research institutions including the State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Southern Medical University, and Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, shared their latest research results in this field through a total of 60 paper reports, which promoted knowledge sharing, innovation and cooperation, and drove the innovative development in the field of mosquito and vector management.

At the summit forum held during the exhibition, Mr. Hao, Lushu, General Manager of Shandong Feiyamei Import and Export Co., Ltd., shared the company's technological innovation achievements in the field of mosquito resistance management. Against the backdrop of increasingly severe public health and epidemic prevention situation, we will continue to deepen the research on resistance mechanisms and the development of comprehensive management technologies, promote the mosquito control industry to develop in a scientific and sustainable direction, and contribute to improving the level of vector biological prevention and control in China. '

It is reported that the Pest Resistance Evolution Simulation Software developed by Shandong Feiyamei can dynamically simulate the adaptive evolution process of biological populations under chemical pressure through big data analysis and algorithm prediction, and can accurately predict the resistance development trend 12-18 months in advance with a prediction accuracy of 85%. The system has shown excellent technical value in the Project of “Research on Key Technologies and Industrial Application of Mosquito Resistance Management” of Zhongshan Lanju Daily Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd. Through the application of the innovative technology of this system, the project was awarded the Second Prize of 2020 Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award, which not only effectively solved the problem of periodic management of mosquito resistance, but also greatly improved the prevention and control efficiency through precise application technology, providing important technical support for the vector biological control work in China.

After the Conference, many experts, scholars and representative participants spoke highly of the organization of this Conference. With the strong support of all participants, the Conference achieved a complete success. This Conference built a high-level international exchange platform for experts and scholars in the field of mosquito control. By in-depth discussion on the latest research progress of mosquito and vector-borne disease monitoring and prevention technologies, it promoted the sharing of cutting-edge scientific research results and the collision of innovative ideas, and provided new solutions for coping with the challenge of cross-border transmission of vector-borne infectious diseases under the background of global climate change.
